We’re so excited to announce our Foragers Flower Workshop featuring Meadowburn Farms heirloom dahlias!

Join us at historical Meadowburn Farm (located about an hour outside of NYC) from 2-5pm on Wednesday, September 17th for a breathtaking afternoon filled with freshly-cut heirloom dahlias, beautiful historical gardens, and a tasting of Meadowburn Farm’s aged cheeses.  We’ll work on designing a low, lush floral arrangement with the seasonal products that you’ll get to take home with you at the end of the day. Dahlias! Meadowburn Farm’s heirloom dahlias have been growing in the gardens since the early 1900’s, when Helena Rutherfurd Ely, avid gardener, author and founding member of the Garden Club of America, built extensive gardens surrounding her country house at Meadowburn Farm. For over 130 years the Meadowburn dahlias have been planted each spring and stored each fall. Today, the Meadowburn dahlia collection consists of 7 distinct heirloom cultivars, each of which expresses unique characteristics no longer popular in modern varieties.

Here are some of the varieties you can expect to see at the farm and use for your arrangements!

• ‘Helena Rutherfurd Ely’ – a glowing, sunset-hued decorative dinner plate with sturdy purple stems.

• ‘Albert Furman’ – A bright yellow cactus dahlia, and a prolific bloomer.
• ‘Old Tweet’ – A cheerful, antique peony flowered dahlia with golden bronze blossoms. Some plants grow up to 9′ tall!
• ‘Byba Vincenza’ – A most unique show dahlia, featuring bobbing  blooms on slender stems, in hues of magenta with streaks of vermilion down the center of petals.
• ‘Clara Helen’ – A bicolor dahlia, in magenta fading to white.
• ‘Danny Bea’ – An elegant antique peony flowered dahlia with 4″ blooms in hues of magenta often with a streak of vermillion in the center of the petal.

• ‘Jane Cowl’ –  This is a stunning informal decorative dinner plate  dahlia with luscious blooms with deep peach centers open up to glowing orange, petals dusted with gold.

Last weekend we were lucky enough to collaborate with the Blog Shop at their NYC class held at the Sunday Suppers studio. It was all things fern for us on Saturday from fern hair wreaths for each of the students to wear to a simple fern Photo Booth backdrop. We've had the pleasure of working with some pretty amazing people over the years. One of our favorite groups of people to collaborate with are the ladies and gents over at Design Sponge. Needless to say we we're so excited to have Amy Azzarito of DS and Jorge of de la Barra Photography come by our workshop last weekend. Jorge is an extremely talented photographer with a great sense of humor and light hearted spirit. Ring in the season with Poppies & Posies' holiday tablescape workshop. Enjoy eggnog & gingerbread while learning how to create the perfect setting for your holiday festivities.

Utilizing seasonal flowers, foliage, and fresh market produce students will learn how to design low, lush floral centerpieces for their holiday celebrations. The fun doesn't end there! Poppies & Posies will share tips, tricks, and how-to's for creating everything from menus to seating cards to personalize any event.  After all, it's all in the details! Students will be given DIY printables so they can recreate this festive tablescape in their own homes.

All materials including clippers, flowers, printables and vessels are yours to take home at the end of the course. All levels of experience are welcome.

Yesterday afternoon an incredible group of creative, talented ladies gathered in our BK studio for an afternoon of bubbly and flowers. Each student chose to attend for a different reason and their level of expertise ranged from owning a flower shop to picking up clippers for the first time. The focus of the workshop was designing low, lush garden-inspired arrangements with some of the season's best offerings. We used dahlias, garden roses, carpet zinnia, hawthorn, bitter sweet, ranunculus, and burning bush. One of the best parts of the day was viewing each student's arrangement when they were finished. Each had its own personality and style making them unique and more interesting as a whole.

A huge thanks to the great group of ladies who joined us yesterday! We hope we'll have the opportunity to see you all again soon! Keep stopping by to hear about our next workshop we'll be announcing in the coming weeks!

When Juliet and I launched P&P almost 6 years ago we quickly realized how little we knew and how much there was to learn. Although we've gained unimaginable amounts of knowledge about designing and executing events over those years, we still recognize today that there is always more to learn. The journey never ends and it's something we've learned to embrace and appreciate. Discovering new techniques, learning about new flowers, and growing as a business is what keeps each day fresh and exciting.

For a long time we've dreamt about putting together a floral workshop series; a place that we could invite floral enthusiasts of all levels to learn and play with beautiful blooms. With the past few years being as busy as they've been it's always been put on the back burner, but never forgotten. We're finally excited to announce our floral workshop series with one on one and group lessons available in both New York City & Los Angeles.
