A few of Emily’s favorite things…

We’re sitting down with Emily from Lael Cakes today to hear about a few of her favorite things. However, before we go any further I must tell you a little bit more about her imaginative sweet treats that are surely to impress even the biggest sweet tooth. Lael Cakes is a brooklyn based boutique bakery specializing in vegan and gluten-free cakes. Let me stop right here and just say that even if you are not vegan or gluten-free you must try her desserts. They are done to perfection! If you’re looking for sugar art, there is simply nowhere better to go. This lady can whip up pretty much any flower, fruit, or object out of sugar making them edible on top of your cake. Pure genius!

So, let’s learn a bit more about Emily’s favorite things…

Bike Commuting: I ride my bike everywhere! Whether I’m getting to work, running errands or spending a day at Fort Tilten; biking is by far my preferred way of transportation! Biking around the city has so many wonderful benefits. Not only is it eco friendly, speedy and relaxing, I’m getting in shape while commuting. With my busy schedule I am all about double tasking. You can’t beat a sunny day with the wind in your hair (under a helmet of course). {Image from antique webster picture dictionary}

Brunch: With early hours spent at the bakery I rarely sit down and enjoy the most important meal of the day, breakfast! So, on my days off I make sure to make time for an extended relaxing brunch. {Image found here}

Le Petit Prince: One of my all time favorite novels is “Le Petit Prince”.   It’s filled with charming pictures that the author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry used to illustrate life lessons that not only are geared towards children but adults too!  {Image copied from: Le Petit Prince book}

Simple Paper Toppers: One of my favorite accents for a party or dessert is paper decorations! Simple diy paper decor is easy to whip together and will blow your guests away. {Photo taken by Jen Huang}
